Liz Cork MBACP (Accredited) Counselling & Psychotherapy in Holmfirth

My Approach

I believe that we are all individuals with unique backgrounds, influences and life experiences. My training has encompassed a wide variety of therapeutic models which allows me to tailor my approach to the specific and individual needs of each client. Above all I have found that building a trusting relationship with my clients is key to successful therapy.

Talking through your problems with a professional counsellor can help you to see things more clearly, make choices and move forward. Whatever your reason for seeking counselling I aim to offer time to talk, confidentially, in a safe place where you will be listened to without being judged.

My aim is to create a calm, encouraging , empowering environment where you have an opportunity to be heard and understood. I may offer different perspectives and gentle challenges to support you in exploring your feelings and help you to find your own way forward.

I hope that you will find me warm, welcoming, understanding, respectful and with a genuine desire to support you through this difficult time. I am straight forward and try to avoid jargon as much as possible. Although the work we do is important and serious, I encourage 'lighter moments' and humour is often present when appropriate.

At our initial meeting we will work together to explore your reasons for seeking counselling and what you hope to achieve. This may involve talking about your background and significant events in your life . It is also your opportunity to get a feel for me, how I work, and to ask any questions about the process. There is no obligation to continue after this first session.

If you decide that you would like to start working with me, we will arrange a regular meeting and start date. I work on an open ended or agreed time bound basis. Face to Face sessions last 60 minutes and cost £48. Sessions via Teams, or telephone last 50 minutes and cost £43.

Regular sessions provide the consistency required for us to build a trusting relationship needed for effective therapy and lasting results. Sometimes uncomfortable feelings arise as a result of therapy but continuity means they can be worked through safely in our sessions.
